Moor Socials take place twice a month in Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Bovey Tracey. Events are coordinated by the Team, with the help of our volunteers, who make the sandwiches, bake the cakes, set the tables and, very importantly, give lifts to people, all contributing to the groups popularity and success. We also have a wonderful raffle Volunteer, Jean!
THANK YOU to all of our wonderful Volunteers who give their gift of time. We need Volunteer Drivers to help people to attend – it’s so much more than driving – it makes a real difference to someone’s day.
We thank the three town Councils for their support of us in awarding grant applications.
We also have 3 Telephone Social Groups – a great way to connect with others while at home. Details at the end of this page.
Moor Social Groups are a great way to get out and meet people, have a piece of cake and a cuppa, join in with talks and activities or simply enjoy the company.
We know that it takes strength to join a new group, so we will always endeavour to accompany you to your first Moor Social.
We always do our best to help with transport to and from Moor Social groups, so please call us on 01364 712013 if you would like to come along and need help with transport.
We try to keep costs to a minimum and rely upon donations both from guests on the day and other organisations to help pay for staff and room hire costs.
Moorland Community Caring is very proud of the feedback we receive from our Moor Social Members – these events are sometimes the only time people get to leave their home and we are often humbled by the positive effect upon a person’s wellbeing after having 2 hours of laughter when connecting with others.

Please note that ALL our Socials take a break during August. There will still be a community space facilitated by us at Bovey Tracey Methodist Church every Tuesday between 13:00-15:00 where you can come for refreshments and a chat.

We will also be at the Methodist Church every other week (2nd, 4th and 5th Tuesday) for a warm space including hot drinks and refreshments. Donations welcome.

Phone Groups – Crossword and Coffee, Quiz and Bingo
Can’t leave the house but miss company? Why not come and join our free Phone Groups, with Crossword, Quiz and Bingo sessions held weekly. They offer a sociable 45 minutes from the comfort of your home.
How? Using conference call wizardry – with no Internet connection required – you simply dial a special phone number and a whole group of people can speak together on the phone. We have a friendly host for each group to explain the ropes to first timers and everyone joining in is very welcoming.
Duration All calls last 45 mins.
Cost The groups are totally free to call when you have a call plan which gives you free daytime calls. If you don’t have this, calls are charged as standard local call.
On the call All groups are hosted and we make it easy & clear how to join in.
