Volunteering is a two-way gift. We want all volunteers to feel valued and supported and to feel rewarded by the role they do. Everyone is welcome and everyone has something to offer, from befriending, offering practical support or helping with our admin, IT or publicity. We support hundreds of people each year because we have a wonderful Volunteer Team. On this page you can find out more about the volunteer roles we have available and complete our volunteering enquiry form.

We know that people volunteer for a variety of different reasons. You may be looking at this page because you want to:

  • learn something new or build skills and experience
  • meet new people and be more social
  • stay active or improve your wellbeing
  • give something back to your community

Moorland Community Caring is extremely proud of our amazing Volunteer Team. We currently have around eighty volunteers across the three towns from all walks of life, all ages and backgrounds. We are always looking for people to join us.

Here are some descriptions of our volunteer roles – click to read in full.

What our volunteers receive

We guarantee, whatever role you choose, will make a huge difference to the well-being of clients, often amazing people with a wealth of experience and an abundance of stories to share. Our work reconnects them with their community. It is also often deeply rewarding and enjoyable for those that generously offer their time. Our connecting community approach aims to give something back at a time in a client’s life when they may feel vulnerable or isolated. Thank you for considering volunteering with us!

"I was struggling to regain some self-confidence in my mobility. My volunteer, Amy, offers me patient and wholehearted kindness, caring, encouragement and support. She is steadily helping me to achieve my goals and my confidence and self-esteem have certainly improved. Having a volunteer befriender is a decision I will never regret. It enhances my life."

"I was so delighted to be able to learn the IT stuff that I needed, in my own home and at my own pace. It was so much better than going on a course, especially for an oldie like me. It’s a wonderful idea and so well organised and executed. Thank you so much."

"Jane’s visits to me make a real difference. As well as practical support, she listens to me and we have really interesting conversations. She’s a star!"

“It’s been most rewarding volunteering as a Digital Champion for Moorland Community Caring during the past year. I’ve not only met some very delightful people along the way but hopefully have helped them with their IT, improved their digital skills and increased their confidence.”

"I think befriending (or some other word) is a two-way process. Not only do you help improve another life, if only a little, it can also boost the befriender’s wellbeing too. Being able to make a difference is very rewarding."

"I had been reading The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse With my client and it led to opening up a conversation on all sorts of life thoughts. And she enjoyed it so much as did I - she is a wealth of stories and life and it was such a sweet way to connect with her. Meeting with Pam once a week is a highlight of my week, as she told me that day and each time I go how much she loves the visits with me."
